My name is Tamara and I live in East Tn with my husband. We moved here from PA where we met and got married.   Since I was 10 years old I have work with animals on a professional level. I started training other peoples dogs then and later went into petsitting and profesional pet grooming. I ran my own business doing all 3 of these for over 12 years after I got out of high school. In that time I have work with animals from rodents to wolf hybreds. I have bred myself cats, German Shepherds and tropical fish.

While living in PA I helped a friend on his farm who raised goats and later chickens. Having only limited exposure to chickens before this it raise my interest after eating my first free range egg. Unfortuantly it would be a few years before I could aquire my own. Now that we are here in our new home I have my own first flock. To find out how I came about my choise of breed read The Search here on my blog. We are now 4 years into having chickens. Blog was started the first year.
Good luck with your chickens, they are so much fun no what the breed is. I had to laugh when I read that you were from PA and FL. We moved to NE TN from Tampa Bay, and my husband is originally from Pittsburgh! We have 2 RIR, 2 BSL, 2 EE, 1 Ancona, and 1 Barred Rock! We also are starting to raise Tamworth pigs (on the ALBC list) and hair sheep. I’ll be looking forward to reading your progress!
Glad to met another that is into the heritage stuff and from FL. I want to get tamworths down the road as hubby wants pigs and is used to butchering. I hope to join the ALBC soon when money is not so tight. But coop comes first then memberships. Thanks for making yourself known keep intouch.
just curious about the “egg song”. i have 3 chickens, look like they should be about the age to start laying. it is my first time owning chickens, bought them as pullets, dont know exact age. i was curious what the egg song was and any other hints i could look for that would show an egg is on the way! thanks
You will know it when you hear it. As many say first timers are very loud about it and it goes on for a bit too. They do alot of trials first before they actually get one with and egg. Needless to say i have gone looking for eggs after hearing and have found nothing.

Heya i am for the first time here. I found this board and I find It really useful & it helped me out much. I hope to give something back and aid others like you helped me.
Tamara…I am interested in your Partridge Rocks. Do you offer/ship hatching eggs or chicks? I know that they are rare…so if you can help me get started or refer me to another reputable farm who works with this wonderful version of the Plymouth Rocks, that would be great…Thank you!
Unfortunatly there are only three breeders of this color at this time. I am not selling this year since we need to build flock bak up. The others are also ding the same. Best hatchery to buy from is Mt Healthy but they might be sold out for year already.
It’s perfect time to make a few plans for the long run and it is time to be happy. I’ve read this put up and if I could I want to recommend you few fascinating issues or advice. Perhaps you could write subsequent articles relating to this article. I want to read more issues about it!
